Vol. 145 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when it is proposed to extend rural electrification to the following areas: (a) Killasser, (b) Bonniconlon, (c) Moygownagh, (d) Lahardane.

Mr. Lynch

I am informed that the Attymass area which includes Bonniconlon and the Killasser area were not successful when considered on previous occasions for development under the rural electrification scheme. Attymass and Killasser, in conjunction with other areas awaiting selection in the board's Sligo district, will again be considered, although the board is at present unable to say when their development is likely to commence. The prospects of their early selection would be enhanced by an increase in the number of residents willing to take supply.

I am also informed that the board has received the results of local canvasses in the Moygownagh and Lahardane areas which are now scheduled for official canvass. When the results of the official canvass are available the areas, in conjunction with other areas in the board's Sligo district, will be considered for selection. The board points out, however, that the prospects of electrical supply to Moygownagh and Lahardane will depend to a great extent on the response of the residents during the official canvass.
