Vol. 145 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of County Galway Road.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will indicate the steps he proposes to take towards the immediate repair of the accommodation road in the townlands of Cloonfane and Quinaltagh, electoral division of Addergoole, from the county road near Mr. Martin Slattery's house northeastwards by the houses of Mr. Thomas Connolly and others to the county road near Mr. John Nestor's house, all in the County Galway.

An application for an employment schemes grant has been recently received for the repair of the road in question. These grants are made available only in the winter period, with the primary purpose of giving employment to persons in receipt of unemployment assistance. I am not, therefore, at present in a position to give any indication as to whether an employment schemes grant can be given for the repair of this road. As indicated in the reply to the Deputy on the 12th February, 1954, it is open to the beneficiaries to apply for the repair of the road under the rural improvements scheme, which requires a contribution from the landholders concerned.
