Vol. 145 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Loughlinstown and Shankill Schools.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state, in reference to the proposed new national schools at Loughlinstown and Shankill, whether any progress has been made during the past 12 months; what is the real cause of the delay in deciding on a site; if any final decision has yet been reached; and, if so, when the work is likely to commence.

A site has been selected for the proposed new school to replace the existing Tillystown National School. The solicitors acting for the reverend manager are negotiating with the owner's solicitors for the acquisition of this site. I am not, however, in a position to say when these negotiations are likely to be successfully completed. Apart from the question of the acquisition of the site certain other preliminary arrangements would have to be completed before a grant for the new school could be sanctioned.

My Department is in communication with the manager's solicitors with a view to having the matter expedited as far as posible.
