Vol. 145 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Shankill Housing Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the cause of the very long delay in proceeding with the housing scheme at Shankill and if he will do everything possible to have the work started immediately owing to the urgent need for the scheme in the locality.

The delay in proceeding with the proposed housing scheme at Shankill is due to the difficulty experienced by the Dublin County Council in securing a suitable site. Approval to the acquisition of approximately 11½ acres of land for housing purposes at Shankill was issued to the council in December last, but I understand from the council that some difficulties have arisen in regard to the transfer of the land. I am informed that it is hoped to have these difficulties cleared up at an early date.
