Vol. 145 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Import of Bull Head Crossings.

andDr ffrench-O'Carroll asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state the number of bull head crossings imported by C.I.E. during the past two years and the number of this type manufactured by C.I.E. workers during the same period.

It is not the practice to disclose particulars of the kind sought in the question in respect of commercial undertakings, and I do not think it would be desirable to establish the precedent of requiring C.I.E. to furnish information of this character for the purpose of replying to Dáil questions.

Might I ask the Parliamentary Secretary if it is fair to make a comparison between a private undertaking and a heavily State subsidised organisation such as C.I.E.?

Heavily State subsidised ?

Paying a subsidy to the Exchequer.

It has been heavily subsidised whether by grant or by loan over a great number of years.

Do not make a fool of the Minister for Finance.

Is the Deputy not repeating his question ?

I am asking in view of the fact of the State financial assistance accorded to this undertaking whether it is not fair to find out if work going abroad could not be done here ?

Mr. Lynch

I will convey the Deputy's observations to the Minister.
