Vol. 145 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Road Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (1) the present rate of wages paid to road workers employed by the Offaly County Council; (2) when this rate came into operation, and (3) if and when he received any proposals for a further increase since 1st April, 1954.

The present rate of wages for workers employed by the Offaly County Council is 88/- a week, effective as from 5th April, 1954. A proposal to increase the rate of wages from 85/- to 88/- a week was received on 2nd April and has been sanctioned.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the reason for the delay in sanctioning the increase in wages by 3/- to 90/- per week to road workers in Counties Waterford and Kilkenny which was recommended by the respective county councils a considerable time ago and if he will give an indication as to when the sanction will be forthcoming.

There was no undue delay in sanctioning the proposals referred to in the question.
