Vol. 149 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Afforestation.

asked the Minister for lands if he is aware of the necessity to start afforestation schemes at Caragh Lake and Kilderry, Milltown, and if he will make a statement in the matter.

As indicated to the Deputy on the 31st March last, in reply to a similar question, forestry operations are already in progress in the Caragh Lake area. With regard to Kilderry, it is too soon yet to indicate what the developments here are likely to be.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state in respect of County Donegal (a) the number of acres at present in the course of afforestation; (b) the number of acres acquired for afforestation since June, 1951, and (c) the number of acres at present on offer to the forestry branch of his Department.

(a) The areas at present held by the Forestry Division in County Donegal total 19,700 acres.

(b) The area acquired since June, 1951, is 6,618 acres.

(c) Areas totalling 21,013 acres are at present on offer to the division.
