Vol. 147 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Pensions Act, 1946.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether a final date has been appointed for the receipt of applications for special allowances under the Army Pensions Act, 1946.

There is no final date for the receipt of applications for special allowances under the Army Pensions Acts from qualified persons as defined in sub-section (3) of Section 41 of the Army Pensions Act, 1953.

Is the Minister aware that letters have emanated from the Department of Defence stating that there is, and giving a specific date— August 5th, 1954?

I am not aware of any such thing because such a letter could not be issued. Perhaps I should try to clear the matter up. There is no final date for the receipt of applications for special allowances under the Army Pensions Act from qualified persons as defined in sub-section (3) of Section 41 of that Act. A person who has a medal can apply at any time, but the date in the case of a person who has not got a medal or who has not applied for one has passed.

Is that date the 5th August?

Anybody who has not received a medal before 5th August cannot get a special allowance?

No, unless the House thinks differently at some stage.
