Vol. 147 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housing Grants.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether housing officers of his Department have been instructed to notify applicants for grants that such grants will not be payable in respect of houses in which the kitchens communicate directly with the other apartments, as shown by the plans submitted with the application.

No instruction, in the form indicated by the Deputy, has been issued. Local appointed housing officers were, however, asked in September last, to take steps at the planning stage to secure a more satisfactory standard of house design, particularly in rural areas. It is not intended that any impracticable standards should be imposed and if cases of difficulty are brought to my notice, I will have them looked into.
