Vol. 147 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Pollard.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he has taken any steps to ensure that the saving in the wheat subsidy, which will result from the 30 per cent. increase in the price of pollard, will not result in a loss of profit for farmers, who are now confronted with higher prices for animal feeding stuffs.

The present output of home-produced pollard is not sufficient to meet the full requirements of feeders, and the balance must be provided by imports. The price of the home-produced product is, therefore, related to the price of the imported product. The recent increase in the price on the world market has been reflected in the prices charged here, but it may be taken that the benefit of any reduction in the world prices will also be passed on to feeders here.
