Vol. 147 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Army Housing.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state whether a decision has yet been reached in regard to the proposed erection of houses for married members of the Defence Forces stationed in Limerick City, and, if so, the nature of the decision; further, whether he is aware that the rent of existing houses is too high, and, if so, whether he will have it reviewed.

A decision has not yet been reached regarding the provision of new married quarters at Sarsfield Barracks, Limerick. The matter is under consideration as part of a scheme to improve the housing conditions of married soldiers at the larger military centres.

I am not aware that the rent for married quarters at Sarsfield Barracks is too high. The current system of charges was introduced on 1st September, 1953, and I do not at present propose to make any alteration in them.
