Vol. 147 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Survey.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether a survey of the arterial drainage catchment areas of Ballyteigue-Kilmore and Cahore, County Wexford, has yet been commenced, and, if so, when he expects to receive a report thereon.

Surveys of these catchment areas have not yet been commenced; they are, however, the next of the minor catchments to be undertaken as soon as staffing arrangements permit.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary state when these surveys are likely to take place?

As soon as they possibly can.

Is he further aware that his predecessor informed the Deputies for Wexford that the survey would take place in the present year? Would the Parliamentary Secretary say when that survey will commence?

If his predecessor said that, it was not sanctioned by his Minister because it only came to me for legal sanction the week before last.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary say if he is aware that his predecessor in office informed the Wexford County Council and the Deputies of County Wexford that the survey would take place in the present year?

I am not so aware.

The records of his Department will show that his predecessor answered a question in this House and also that he wrote to the local authorities to that effect. I should like to ask further, arising out of the reply, if any alteration has been made by the Parliamentary Secretary in the priority of the survey of this particular area?

That question is outside the scope of the question on the Order Paper.

As the Minister pointed out, it has only come recently to the Minister for sanction.
