Vol. 147 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - House Purchase Scheme.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state whether he is considering the introduction of a house purchase scheme for tenants of councils and corporations, similar to that at present operating for tenants of labourers' cottages.

The existing law gives urban housing authorities adequate powers to formulate house purchase schemes of various kinds. I think that it is better to rely upon the utilisation of these flexible powers than to attempt to introduce a statutory scheme applicable to all urban areas and all types of urban houses.
