Vol. 147 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Repair of Donegal Roads.

andBreslin asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that at a recent meeting of the Donegal County Council it was unanimously decided to request him to make a special grant available for urgent repairs to the county roads; if he will state whether the relevant proposals have yet been received by him and what steps he proposes to take in the matter.

A request for a special grant for county road works was received in the Department on the 9th instant. The county council have recently been notified of a grant of £41,000 which may be applied to main and county roads in whatever proportions the council decide.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the grant of £41,000 shows a reduction on the amount received last year under the same heading?

The resources of civilisation have not yet been exhausted. If the Deputy will wait for the next allocation something may be done to meet his reasonable wishes.

Further arising out of the Parliamentary Secretary's reply, does he intend the House to infer from his remarks that we may expect some further grants from his Department in the current financial year?

I advise the Deputy to wait and see.
