Vol. 147 No. 6

Ceisteanna — Questions. Oral Answers. - Margarine-Butter Mixture.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that allegations have recently been made that a mixture of margarine and Irish creamery butter is being sold as pure creamery butter, and, if so, if he will state whether there is any foundation for these allegations.

The answer to the first part of the question is "No" and the second part does not, therefore, arise. If, however, the Deputy will kindly supply me with details, I will, of course, have the matter fully investigated.

Is such a mixture permissible by law?

For sale, so far as I am aware, no, but I am answering off my cuff to the best of my ability. I would not be certain of that.

I will not hold the Minister responsible if he is wrong.
