Vol. 147 No. 8

Committee on Finance. - Fifth Stage.

Question proposed: "That the Bill do now pass."

On the Fifth Stage, in courtesy to the House, I think I should inform it that procedure in regard to all these old Acts analogous to the procedure which we adopted in regard to the fishery code is in contemplation and this Bill is really a Bill which corresponds to the amending Bill which will be brought in preparatory to codifying the fishery laws. This just tidies up some anachronisms that remain in the whole chapter of laws that relate to insects and pests and when this Bill is passed we will in due course bring before the House a codifying Bill bringing all the Acts relating to insects and pests into one statute.

Major de Valera

In connection with the codification as a whole of our code of law relating to such a field, will the Minister when bringing in his codified proposals make arrangements for consulting various biological experts, apart from departmental experts, who would be able to advise him in this matter? I think it is rather important. There is a very wide field involved here when it comes to codifying all the enactments relating to pests and possible controls and I would suggest to the Minister that in preparing his Bill all the biological interests or advisers available should be consulted.

I am obliged to the Deputy for his suggestion. I can assure him it will be borne in mind when the codifying Bill is being drafted.

Question put and agreed to.
Ordered: That the Bill be sent to Seanad Éireann.
