Vol. 148 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Holiday Travel Facilities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware of the dissatisfaction that exists because of the inadequacy of the travelling facilities provided through out the holiday season, and, if so, if he will make a statement in the matter.

The responsibility for the provision of internal transport facilities is a matter for C.I.E. and the other public transport bodies in their respective areas. I have received no complaints that the facilities provided during the holiday season are inadequate.

There have been complaints about the inadequacy of the travel facilities on the Dún Laoghaire/Holyhead route and I have made representations on the subject to British Railways. I have been informed by British Railways that they are taking measures to improve facilities on this route this year. These measures include the provision of a number of extra sailings at busy periods. At my request British Railways are now examining the matter further to ensure that their services for 1955 will be fully adequate to cope with the traffic.
