Vol. 148 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Schools for Dungarvan.

asked the Minister for Education if he will state when tenders will be invited for the erection of new schools to replace the present boys' and girls' national school at Abbeyside, Dungarvan.

I am advised by the Commissioners of Public Works that the working drawings and specification for the proposed new boys' and girls' national schools at Abbeyside, Dungarvan, have been completed. Before tenders for the erection of the schools can be invited, bills of quantities must be taken out.

The Commissioners of Public Works will not be in a position to arrange for the preparation of the bills of quantities until the manager of the schools has obtained and forwarded to the commissioners the written approval of the Dungarvan Urban District Council for the plans for the new schools. I understand that application for approval of the plans was made to the urban district council on 24th January last.

When the approval of the council is received, the remaining stages in the preparation for the erection of the new schools will be attended to with all possible speed.
