Vol. 148 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Acquisition.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether the Land Commission have considered the propriety of acquiring the lands of Mr. P. C. Fahy, Kinnity, County Roscommon, and, if so, with what result.

The position is as indicated in a reply given to a similar question by the Deputy on the 31st March last.

Is the Minister aware this farmer's land is up for sale by private treaty at the moment? Is he further aware that the Land Commission three years ago tried to acquire compulsorily this farm of land but that the owner won his objection before the Land Commission Court, that the man died since and in the meantime his nieces and nephews have decided to put it up for private auction? Would the Minister not agree that if the Land Commission felt like taking it over three years ago when he was alive, they should now take steps to acquire this land to relieve congestion in view of the fact that none of his relations intend to live on it?

I am informed by the Land Commissioners that it has been brought to their notice that one of the three farms——

I have only mentioned the land of P. C. Fahy. There are three farms but I have mentioned the land in which I am interested, that of Fahy, Kinnity.

There were three farms of Fahy, Kinnity—one person.

Would the Minister state what action he proposes to take in connection with this farm of 105 acres that is now up for sale by private treaty? Is it to be sold to some outsider?

That is a matter for the commissioners.

Would the Minister emulate his colleague Malenkov and admit his guilt?

The Deputy is becoming Mr. Khrushchev, I take it.
