Vol. 148 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Feeding Barley.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the conditions in regard to bushel weight and moisture content governing the price of 40/- per barrel for feeding barley of the 1955 crop.

It is not proposed to prescribe conditions in regard to the bushel weight or moisture content of feeding barley of the 1955 crop. Growers will be free to market their barley to the best advantage with the assurance that the price will not fall below 40/- a barrel, delivered, for grain in good sound condition and suitable for grinding into feed. This is a floor price and it is possible that growers may get a higher price depending on the prices for live-stock products on the export market, the world prices for comparable feeding stuffs at the time the barley is sold and the condition of the grain.
