Vol. 148 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Production of Gypsum.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the large scale emigration from the area, he will have inquiries made to ascertain whether the gypsum works at Kingscourt can increase its production, and thus give more permanent employment.

I am not in a position to furnish detailed information regarding the activities and intentions of private commercial concerns. I am sure, however, that the firms engaged in the gypsum industry will not lose sight of possible opportunities of increasing production.

Proposals are before me at present and are being sympathetically considered, which should have the effect of increasing production and expanding employment.
