Vol. 148 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Scheme Workers.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the workers employed on the Feale drainage scheme are very dissatisfied because they have been refused the increase of 10/- per week, which was granted by the Kerry County Council to its road workers with effect from 1st April, 1954, and, if so, if he will reconsider the matter with a view to granting the increase.

The rates of wages of labourers employed on arterial drainage schemes generally are under examination; but as stated in reply to a question asked by the Deputy on the 15th December, 1954, these rates are not directly related to the wages of county council road workers.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary state if there is any good reason why a worker of this kind should be kept so far behind? County council workers are usually on the next lowest paid rate in the county.

They are not kept so far behind.
