Vol. 148 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Subsidy.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (i) whether it is proposed to continue the subsidy on the export of creamery butter, (ii) the amount of such subsidy, and (iii) the cost of such subsidy in the current financial year.

The reply is as follows:—

(i) Creamery butter is not at present being exported and the question as to whether an export subsidy will in future be payable is one for decision if and when the necessity should arise.

(ii) The amount of any future subsidy would depend on the price which would be received for the creamery butter on the export market.

(iii) The amount of the subsidy on the creamery butter exported by the Butter Marketing Committee to date during the current financial year will, subject to final adjustment of the figure, be about £222,300.
