Vol. 149 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Rehabilitation.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the average cost per acre of land reclaimed under (1) Section A and (2) Section B of the land rehabilitation project for each financial year since the scheme came into operation including the present financial year up to the latest date for which figures are available.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state the number of cases in Counties Carlow, Wexford and Wicklow in which land reclamation work on particular holdings under Section B of the land rehabilitation project has continued for more than one year, and whether he will state the average cost per acre to his Department of the work on the holdings in question.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 45 and 46 together. Under Section A 63,524 cases have been dealt with; and under Section B 2,953 cases. To supply the information asked for by the Deputy in Question No. 45 would require an analysis of each of these files, which would involve a volume of work and a diversion of personnel from their normal duties which, in the circumstances, I do not think would be warranted.

The number of cases in which work has been proceeding under Section B of the project for over a year is as follows:— County Carlow, 23; County Wexford, 12; County Wicklow, none.

The work is not completed in any of these cases. It is not possible to furnish the information sought in the second part of this question.
