Vol. 149 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Salmon Licence Duty.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will indicate the amount paid for a salmon licence by drift net fishermen along each of the following stretches of the North Donegal coast line: (a) Greencastle to Malin Head, (b) Malin Head to Downings, and (c) Downings to Burtonport.

The duty payable on a salmon drift net licence in each of the areas mentioned is as follows — (a) £16; (b) £3; (c) £3.

Does the Parliamentary Secretary not agree that it is most unfair that a salmon fisherman on one part of the coast would have more than five times as much to pay for his licence as his next door neighbour a few miles away and, in view of that, will he see to it that the Foyle Commission will not be allowed to do what is in fact, or what will amount to, putting the drift fishermen off the North Donegal coast?
