Vol. 149 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Driving Licences.

asked the Minister for Local Government if, in view of the rapidly increasing number of vehicles on the roads and the increase in the number of accidents, he will institute a driving test to be taken prior to the issue of a driver's licence.

asked the Minister for Local Government if it is his intention to introduce proposals for legislation to amend the law so as to enable persons whose driving licences have been suspended to apply to a court for the removal or modification of suspension if in the opinion of the court the circumstances warrant that course.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 58 and 59 together.

As I indicated in reply to recent questions, proposals for the amendment of the Road Traffic Act, 1933, are still under examination by the Departments concerned. It is not possible at this stage to indicate what decisions will be taken regarding particular proposals.
