Vol. 149 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Wages-grade Staff.

andMr. Desmond asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the fact that the majority of superannuated members of the wages-grade staff of C.I.E. have ceased to qualify for trade union membership and consequently are excluded from the provisions of the Transport Act in relation to superannuation, he will make representations to C.I.E. to increase substantially the very low rates of pension at present obtaining.

The fact that a superannuated member of the wages-grade staff of C.I.E. has ceased to qualify for trade union membership would not affect any rights he may have had under the Transport Act.

The question of the superannuation scheme operated by C.I.E. is at present the subject of discussion with that company.

I should add that under existing legislation the responsibility for initiating any proposals for amendments to existing pension schemes rests with the board of C.I.E.
