Vol. 149 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Motor Insurance Premiums.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether the setting up of the Motor Insurance Bureau of Ireland will entail increases in premiums payable by motor owners, and if he will ensure by Order, or if necessary by the introduction of proposals for legislation, that present or prospective motor owners will not be penalised by virtue of the working of the proposed scheme.

While I have no functions in regard to motor insurance premiums, I can state that I have been informed that the establishment of the Motor Insurers' Bureau of Ireland will not involve any increase in such premiums. The second part of the Deputy's question does not therefore arise.
