Vol. 149 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Health Act Benefits.

asked the Minister for Health if he will publicise in the Press or otherwise the services and benefits available to qualified persons under the currently operative provisions of the Health Act, 1953.

Services at present available under the Health Acts, 1947 to 1954, are explained in the publication, Guide to the Social Services, which is on sale at the Government Publications Sale Office, G.P.O. Arcade, Dublin, price 6d. A summary, in simplified form, of these services has been prepared in my Department and is available without charge to any interested persons.

I am very anxious that the health services should be publicised as widely as possible. In appropriate cases advertisements have been, and will continue to be, inserted by my Department in the Press giving particulars of new health services. In addition, local health authorities are empowered to advertise the services they provide and they have been asked specifically to bring certain new services to the notice of eligible persons in their areas by means of suitable local publicity.

I have also in mind the preparation of a pamphlet giving full information about the health services available and how to set about obtaining them. This will be done when the health services have passed the present transitional stage.
