Vol. 149 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - C.I.E. Staff Travel Facilities.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce what is the cost to C.I.E. of providing free travel facilities for their salaried staff.

The arrangements by C.I.E. in respect of travel facilities for their staffs are entirely within the discretion of the board of the concern, and I am unable, therefore, to give the information sought by the Deputy.

Arising out of the reply, is the Minister aware that there are very many hundreds of people who have absolutely no connection with C.I.E. who are enjoying the facilities available to C.I.E. workers for free bus transport in the city, and does the Minister think that this is an equitable state of affairs?

As I have explained in the reply, this is a matter entirely within the discretion of the directors of C.I.E. and I have no power to interfere in these detailed matters of administration.
