asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) when the North Gate Bridge, Cork City, was closed to heavy traffic, (b) the reason for the delay in carrying out the necessary repairs, and (c) when the work will be completed.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cork Bridge Repairs.
I understand that a weight restriction on traffic using this bridge was imposed by the local authority in April, 1953.
A scheme for carrying out repairs of a temporary nature, which would not, however, leave the bridge fit for modern traffic, was agreed on last December. It rests with Cork Corporation to decide whether to undertake such repairs or, alternatively, to consider the replacement of the bridge. I am not, therefore, in a position to say when the work will be completed.
