Vol. 151 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will ascertain from the E.S.B. (1) when it is proposed to develop the Glenfin area, County Donegal, (2) the approximate population of the area, and (3) the number of householders who have agreed to take a supply of electricity.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Glenfin area has been considered for selection by the board on a number of occasions, but has not so far been selected as the returns for the area have not compared favourably with those for other areas still awaiting development in the Sligo district. The area will be reconsidered by the board in due course and the decision of the board will depend on how the returns for the area then compare with those for other areas still awaiting development in the Sligo district.

I cannot say what the approximate population of the area is, but the board have informed me that there are 905 householders in the area and that 422 of these have agreed to take a supply of electricity when it becomes available.
