Vol. 152 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Savings Propaganda.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether any further action has been taken by the Director of Savings, after consultation with the Department of Finance, to implement proposals for more extensive propaganda which were being considered in 1954, including (1) savings committees, (2) greater use of films and advertising, (3) experimental provision of savings bank offices in towns, and (4) other proposals.

The question of the measures which would be most likely to stimulate saving through the Post Office Savings Bank and Savings Certificates is at present being closely examined by the Department of Finance and by my Department.

Meanwhile, publicity is being continued through the weekly sponsored radio programme and the exhibition throughout the country of the film specially produced for the purpose. Also, a contract has been placed for a further advertising campaign embracing the Press, posters, window bills in buses and railway carriages, and film "trailers".
