Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Imports of Boots and Shoes.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state, in respect of each of the years from 1952-53 to 1954-55, the total quantity of boots and shoes imported into this country from (a) Great Britain, and (b) other countries; and if he will state the countries, other than Great Britain, from which imports have been made.

The imports of footwear made in Britain were: 7,643 dozen pairs in 1952; 7,616 dozen pairs in 1953; 7,444 dozen pairs in 1954; and 4,008 dozen pairs in the period January to May, 1955. The imports from all other countries in the same periods, including home-produced footwear reimported were: 2,461 dozen pairs; 1,317 dozen pairs; 1,148 dozen pairs; and 340 dozen pairs, respectively. Other countries from which imports were received in 1952-55, in many cases in negligible quantities, were: The Six Counties; Belgium; Czechoslovakia; Finland; France; Italy; Netherlands; Sweden; Switzerland; India; China; Federation of Malaya; Hong Kong; United States of America; and Canada.
