Vol. 153 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Enniscorthy Lead Mine Survey.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the fact that mining experts are at present in the country, he will consider making arrangements for the survery of the lead mine at Caim, Enniscorthy, with a view to ascertaining whether any further use can be made of it.

The deposit to which the Deputy refers has been surveyed as recently as 1953, and the information which was obtained is made available by the Geological Survey Office to any person who is interested in the deposit. The Deputy will understand that development is, of course, a matter for private enterprise. I am, however, prepared to bring the results of the survey to the notice of persons who may make inquiries as to the existence of lead deposits, and I will also be prepared to grant any necessary facilities under the Minerals Development Act, 1940, in relation to this deposit, to an applicant who can satisfy the customary conditions as to financial and technical resources.
