asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state (a) the estimated number of tons of native wheat of the 1954 crop which will be used for the manufacture of bread and flour in the current financial year, and if he will give similar figures in respect of the 1955 crop, and (b) the amount of imported wheat to be used for the same purpose, indicating the countries of origin and the present c.i.f. price per ton in each case.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Use of Native Wheat.
The quantity of dried native wheat of the 1954 harvest which it is estimated will be used in flour production during the financial year ending on the 31st March, 1956, is 183,000 tons. As regards native wheat of the 1955 crop it is estimated that the quantity will be 105,000 tons.
The quantity of imported wheat to be used in the financial year ending on the 31st March, 1956, is estimated at 138,000 tons.
