Vol. 153 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bank Credit.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the name and date of the publication from which he quoted bank credit accommodation figures in relation, inter alia, to the month of September, 1955, in the course of the debate on 27th October, 1955.

The statistics of bank advances within the State, which I quoted during the course of the debate on the 27th October, were based, in so far as periods up to June, 1955, are concerned, on particulars published in the Quarterly Statistical Bulletins of the Central Bank of Ireland. The figures for the months of July, August and September, 1955, were obtained from the Central Bank and will appear in the Bank's Statistical Bulletin for the September quarter, 1955, which will be published within the next week or so.

Arising out of the reply, may I say that when the Taoiseach gave these figures, they were not obtainable by anybody but himself?

Nine out of 12 of the figures I gave were obtainable by anybody. The other three were obtained from the Central Bank in accordance with what I am advised is the normal official practice.
