Vol. 153 No. 5

Order of Business.

It is proposed to take business as set out on the Order Paper: No. 1, Vote 40.

Can the Taoiseach say when it is hoped to take the Second Stage of the Local Government Superannuation Bill, 1955? I think that most Deputies are aware of the widespread demand that there is amongst local authority employees——

The Deputy may ask a question but he may not make a speech.

I will answer the question to the best of my ability. This Bill has proved to be an extremely difficult one to draft and settle. It has, I am informed, over 70 sections in it. It is actually drafted at the moment and is being cleared by the various. Departments who have an interest in the Bill, and I hope to have it at the very earliest possible date. I have been pressing for it and have had correspondence with the Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Local Government about the matter.
