Vol. 153 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Amiens Street Sorting Office.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the progress made towards the provision of working drawings for the Amiens Street sorting office.

Since my reply to Deputy Childers' question in December last regarding the proposed new Dublin Sorting Office further progress has been made in the planning of the building and the stage has now been reached when my Department can accord its approval to the most recent sketch plans prepared by the Commissioners of Public Works. Satisfactory progress has also been made by the engineering personnel of my Department with the planning of the schemes of heating, lighting, ventilation and mechanisation of the proposed building.

The Commissioners of Public Works have recently carried out extensive trial borings on the site and it is understood that they will shortly be in a position to furnish an estimate of the cost of erection of the building.
