Vol. 154 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Housing.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he has received a proposal from the Kerry County Council concerning the erection by direct labour of two houses at Castleisland, and, if so, whether he proposes to issue the necessary sanction.

The proposal in question has been sanctioned.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware that a contractor, whose tenders were sanctioned for the erection of 93 single rural cottages in County Kerry, has now withdrawn, and, if so, if he will once more advise the county council to take steps to have these cottages erected by direct labour.

I presume the Deputy is referring to a tender for erecting 73 rural cottages which was accepted by the Kerry County Council in July, 1955, and which the contractor withdrew in November last. The council have since accepted alternative tenders for 29 of the cottages and have recently obtained fresh tenders for the remaining 44 cottages. I think it is desirable that I should await the submission of proposals from the county council arising out of their consideration of these latter tenders.
