Vol. 154 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kerry Workers' Wages.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that the Kerry County Council is paying £5 5s. 0d. per week to road workers since 28th November, 1955, and, if so, if he will arrange to pay a similar rate to workers employed on rural and minor employment schemes in County Kerry.

I am aware that the wages of road workers employed by the Kerry County Council have been increased to £5 5s. 0d. per week with retrospective effect to the 28th November, 1955.

The new rate will apply to unskilled workers employed on minor employment and similar schemes in County Kerry, and is being put into effect immediately in the case of workers currently employed. Arrears of wages will be paid as soon as possible but as this is the peak period of employment on such schemes there will inevitably be some unavoidable delay in paying arrears to all men employed since 28th November, 1955.
