Vol. 154 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Wages of Nenagh Drainage Workers.

asked the Minister for Finance whether, in view of the increase in wages granted to county council and forestry workers in North Tipperary, he will grant a similar increase to the workers employed on the Nenagh drainage scheme.

I am not aware of any recent increase in the wages of county council or forestry workers in North Tipperary. In any event, as I have indicated in reply to previous similar questions, the wages of workers employed on arterial drainage schemes including the Nenagh scheme are not directly related to the wages of county council workers.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the wages of county council workers in that district have been increased by 10/- since 1st October last? The drainage workers have to meet the increase in the cost of living the same as other workers and are entitled to the same increase.
