Vol. 154 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Factory Legislation.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce when he proposes to bring the Factories Act, 1955, into force.

Before the Factories Act, 1955, can be brought into operation, a considerable number of Orders and Regulations must be made by the Minister for Industry and Commerce.

The advisory council set up under Section 127 of the Act has been fully occupied with the preparation of these Orders and Regulations and substantial progress has been made with the work.

Whilst I cannot, as yet, indicate even an approximate date for the commencement of the Act, I may say that I shall be disappointed if I am not in a position to announce fairly soon that the Act will be brought into operation some time in the autumn. I fear that one of the biggest obstacles to be overcome is the expeditious printing of the necessary Orders, Regulations, etc.
