Vol. 154 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mayo Relief Schemes.

asked the Minister for Finance if he is aware that no grant in respect of minor relief schemes has been allotted to the electoral division of Mungnabo, Belmullet rural district, for the year 1955-56, and whether, in view of the impassable state of the roads in the Rossduagh townland, which is in a Gaeltacht area, and the high percentage of the male population in receipt of unemployment assistance, he will consider making a special grant in respect of the repair of these roads.

The full proportionate amount available from the Employment and Emergency Schemes Vote, 1955-56, for the electoral division of Mungnabo has already been allocated—partly for an accommodation road in the townlands of Srahataggle, Owenanirragh, Laghtmurragha, Glinsk, Geevraun and Beldergbeg as a minor employment scheme, and partly for a rural employment scheme on a county road. The work on the accommodation road is, in fact, at present in progress.

If the Deputy will furnish to my office particulars of the roads in Rossduagh which he has in mind, due consideration will be given to the proposals in next year's employment schemes programme for the area. The current year's allocations are now closed.

What will happen to the people in Rossduagh for the next 12 months? They cannot use that road. There are 30 families in this Gaeltacht area and we are told now to wait for 12 months more.

I told the Deputy that if he will be good enough to furnish to my office particulars about it, we will do what we can. They were a long time neglected, you know.
