asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of each of the years 1952, 1954 and 1955 the value of imports of British newspapers.

The value of imports of British newspapers was £238,038 in 1952; £223,940 in 1954; and £207,054 in 1955.

It is not possible to give precisely the information desired. Imports are brought to account according to descriptions specified in the official import list. This list distinguishes between "daily" and "other" newspapers, but does not separately specify Sunday newspapers. The values of non-dutiable imports of British newspapers, other than daily newspapers, were as follows: £196,366 in 1952; £176,587 in 1954; and £166,661 in 1955.
