Vol. 157 No. 2

Written Answers. - Agricultural and Industrial Production.

asked the Taoiseach if he would state in respect of the years ended 31st March, 1938, and 31st March, 1955, (a) the value of agricultural production, and (b) the value of industrial production.

The relevant information is not compiled for the precise periods specified by the Deputy, but it is possible to provide particulars for periods which closely approximate to them.

(a) For the agricultural year 1937-38 the value of the gross output of agriculture was £48.4 million and of the net output £40.5 million. For the year 1954 the corresponding figures were £180.9 million for gross output and £150.1 million for net output.

(b) For the year 1937 the value of gross output of all industries and services covered by the Census of Industrial Production was £87.2 million and the value of net output £34.3 million. For the year 1954 the data on gross output are not yet available, but it is estimated that the corresponding value of net output was £122.5 million.
