Written Answers. - Notes and Currency in Circulation.

asked the Minister for Finance if he would state the amount of notes and currency (i) in circulation, and (ii) held by the Irish banks in the Twenty-Six Counties on (a) 31st March, 1938, and (b) 31st March, 1955.

Figures are not available for the total circulation in the State of notes and coin other than Irish notes and coin. The total circulation of Irish notes and coin, including amounts held by Irish banks in the Twenty-Six Counties, for which separate figures are not available, was as follows on the dates mentioned:—

31st March, 1938

The total value of notes and coin of all descriptions held by Associated Banks within the State on the reporting dates in March, 1938, and March, 1955, was:—
