Vol. 157 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fuel for Limerick Prison.

asked the Minister for Justice whether, with reference to the advertisement seeking tenders for the supply of 200 tons of coal for Limerick prison which has appeared in the daily papers, he will state why native fuel is not being utilised in the prison.

Turf is not suitable for use in the small coal-burning boilers installed in Limerick prison, but there is no objection whatsoever to the use of native coal and this is used whenever it can be obtained.

Does the Minister agree that 200 tons of coal were advertised for by the authorities? Is that a fact?

All contracts for the supply of fuel and coal to the prison services are made by the Commissioners of Public Works.
