Vol. 158 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - E.S.B. Interest and Redemption Payments.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state in respect of each of the years 1954 and 1955 the amount paid by the E.S.B. in interest in respect of advances made under the Electricity Supply Acts and the Shannon Fisheries Act, respectively, and the total amount of the redemptions paid by the board.

I assume that the question refers to the financial years 1954-55 and 1955-56.

Payments by the E.S.B. in respect of advances under the Electricity Supply Acts were:—

1954-55

1955-56

£

£

Interest

2,043,120

2,227,469

Redemptions

399,175

435,149

Payments by the board in respect of advances under the Shannon Fisheries Act, 1935, were:—

1954-55

1955-56

£

£

Interest

8,135

8,044

Redemptions

1,783

1,873

Would the Minister say whether any part of the interest paid in respect of the year 1955-56 was paid in respect of the grant for rural electrification upon which the board is now paying interest?

If the Deputy requires a breakdown of that figure and puts down a question to that effect, I shall be happy to supply it to him.
