Vol. 158 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Kilkenny Milk Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will make an Order providing for the operation in Kilkenny, as is the case in Cork and Dublin, of summer and winter retail prices for milk.

The Orders fixing the maximum retail prices for milk in the Cork and Dublin sale districts are based on the minimum prices in operation in those areas for producers of milk for liquid consumption, and are necessary to control the margin that may be taken in distribution.

Control of retail prices of milk in other areas of the State, where minimum prices for producers are not fixed, was removed in January, 1952, on the recommendation of the Prices Advisory Body.

I am at present examining the position regarding prices outside the Cork and Dublin sale districts.
